Supplementary- weft brocade
Fabrics can be adorned with superimposed structure techniques such a “supplementary- weft brocade”. This method crates figures by interweaving additional threads with the ground warp and weft as the fabric itself is being woven. Some figures float through the fabric, Others are wrapped around the threads if the warp. The result is a series of unique and varied shapes.
Emboidery
Embroidery, as we know it today, is of European origin. Over the years, this technique has come to predominate the decoration of the huipiles in many communities a variety of motifs are created using complex stitches. The use of machine embroidery has increased in recent decades, in many cases it has replaced brocading. Appliques are also used, and include decorative fabrics, cording, beads, lace and sequins.
The huipil is the tangible heritage if an ancient tradition. Giving life to this tradition is another intangible heritage of knowledge, techniques, motifs and their meanings, their future will depend n whether women continue to wear their traditional dress.
